Understanding the Swedish Healthcare System

Sweden has universal healthcare, but you need to understand how it works.

Getting Started

Register with a vårdcentral (health center) in your area. You need a personnummer for this.

How It Works

For non-emergency issues, call 1177 for medical advice. Visit your vårdcentral for routine care.

Emergency Care

Call 112 for emergencies. Visit akutmottagning (emergency room) for serious issues.

Costs

Most care costs 200-400 SEK per visit. Dental care is separate and more expensive.
